The pacemaker revolutionized cardiology, saving countless lives by regulating heart rhythms.
But it was a chance innovation. Earl Bakken, the co-founder of Medtronic, developed the first wearable, battery-powered pacemaker by chance. He was approached by a surgeon who needed help powering a piece of equipment for a life-saving surgery. Bakken improvised a solution using a transistor and a battery, inadvertently laying the foundation for the development of the pacemaker.
What have you improvised upon this week? You never know where it could take you.
