Micro-management doesn’t work for anyone. I am yet to find someone who it is working for – teams or leaders alike.
If you are worried about remote workers, and if they are being productive: you are expending your energy in the wrong way.
Don’t ask your people to come back to the office, so you can watch them sitting in their chair doing the shopping online. Thats not productivity.
When you give people the length of rope, and empowerment, it goes one of two ways. They either flourish and shine, or they hang themselves. You can easily monitor that, adding in clear goals and coaching them – suddenly you’re acting in the macro, which is far more productive than the micro.
